The Wounded Land by Stephen R. Donaldson
So I have been a little let down by the Thomas Covenant books by Stephen R. Donaldson until I read the first book of the second trilogy. Now I have a completely new perspective on the books and the first trilogy.
Before I suspected that the first books in the trilogy were a bit of hack job on Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings series, and maybe they were.
However, with the new trilogy the first trilogy is less like the lord of the rings and more like the Silmarillion.
The new trilogy has a distinct life of its own and is very unique. The book introduces a side kick for the hero Thomas Covenant. It also starts the entire struggle over again, but the reset has just a enough familiarity to keep the reader in the know and attuned to what is going on, while giving something fresh almost like a parallel universe within the parallel universe of ‘The Land.’
I’ve just started reading the second book of the second trilogy and hope that it is as good as the first.
